Heeney Some Milk Season Review

In a nutshell:

Few expected the youngest side in the competition to record a single win this season, let alone avoid a second consecutive wooden spoon, but Heeney Some Milk’s 2020 season somehow managed to be a success.

MVP: Clayton Oliver (93.9PPG)

Ranked the fifth-best player across the whole league, Oliver overcame a slow start to put up some incredible figures in the second half of the season.

The midfielder averaged 93.9PPG with a stellar stretch over rounds 7-11 where he averaged 112.2PPG, providing his team with a consistent captain option after the loss of the rookie, Matthew Rowell.

Clayton Oliver was back to his 2018 best this season

Surprise packet: Andrew Brayshaw (79.2PPG)

Though many predicted a breakout year for Andrew Brayshaw, it wasn’t until round five when the 20-year-old started to find form.

Brayshaw was acquired via trade with BOO over the offseason, and has proven to be an important piece in Heeney Some Milk’s rebuild.

Rookie of the Year: Noah Anderson (56.8PPG)

His best mate stole the spotlight in the beginning of the season, but Noah Anderson showed plenty of glimpses at what he’s capable of throughout the year.

An average of 56.8PPG isn’t too much to marvel at, but Anderson managed to record four scores over 70+ in just his first season, including two BCV tons of 80.

Rowell and Anderson both showed what they're capable of in 2020

Disappointment: Connor Rozee (51.8PPG)

Rozee raced out of the gates with an 85 and 76 in the first two weeks, but failed to make any sort of impact since those two scores, finishing the season with a 51.8 average.

Best win: Round 12

Heeney Some Milk (1598) def. The UUFFT (1137)

The last-placed Heeney Some Milk entered this match one game and 400 points behind The UUFFT, as Coach Fienemann seemed to lose his passion for the game throughout the year.

To find themselves in a situation where they avoid the wooden spoon was one thing, but to close the 400 point gap immediately was something special, as Heeney Some Milk managed to put up the fifth-highest score for the season en route to a 461-point thumping.

Best individual performance: Clayton Oliver (131)

The midfielder put up 131 points in the club’s second win for the season, an 81-point victory over Max’s Team in Round 10.

What’s in store for 2021:

Despite the fact they only avoided the wooden spoon due to another coach neglecting his side, Heeney Some Milk were much more competitive this season compared to last year.

If their youth continues to improve, they could pull off a few more upsets in 2021, but finals are still a long way down the track.
