Nana's Power Rankings: Round 1

Updated: Jun 22, 2020

After three months of uncertainty, Nana’s football finally returns and with it comes the first instalment of Power Rankings.

The news surrounding the season understandably overshadowed the terrific battles we saw in Round 1, but now it’s time to revisit these matchups 12 weeks later and get right into the rankings.

1. BOOOOooOOooOOOO! (1-0)

The season opened with a Grand Final rematch and although they fell agonisingly short last season, BOO started 2020 with a statement victory over last year's premiers.

A league-high score of 1505 despite a captain only scoring 74 is a good indication of this list's strength, and being able to get revenge for last year's Grand Final heartbreak was certainly a handy bonus.

2. Beat Jesse (1-0)

Beat Jesse did exactly what their new name suggested in Round 1, knocking over The UUFFT and showing the league what they're capable of underneath their motivated manager.

With Heeney Some Milk scheduled for Round 2, Beat Jesse - who finished sixth in 2019 - will be starting this now-shortened season with a valuable 2-0 record.

Nick Haynes (85) made an immediate impact with his new side

3. Gabe's Team (1-0)

Many rated Gabe's Team with the strongest list in the competition heading into 2020, though an unconvincing win over The Catholic Church in Round 1 has left a lot to be desired from this year's premiership favourites.

However, despite some underperforming players, Gabe's Team still managed to walk away with the win but a big game against the red-hot BOO looms large in Round 2.

4. NANA Winner (0-1)

Though they opened their title defence with a loss, their score of 1442 would have been strong enough to beat five other sides, meaning the reigning premiers lost no respect after Round 1.

NANA Winner were 2019's most consistent side, and their score in Round 1 shows they haven't lost a step, but an 0-2 record will always be daunting if they are to fall to The UUFFT in Round 2.

5. The UUFFT (0-1)

While The UUFFT were predicted to slide down the ladder this season, their opponent in Round 1 was expected to rocket right up, which is why an early loss doesn't raise too many eyebrows.

However, The UUFFT will be wanting to prove they deserved to be a part of last year's finals and in order to do so, they'll need to find a win against some seriously good competition after some hard luck with their fixture.

Jack Ziebell (22) suffered a knee injury in the second quarter

6. Max's Team (1-0)

Despite notching a win in Round 1, Max's Team find themselves below both the winless UUFFT and NANA Winner due to the "Heeney Some Milk factor".

It was a handy win for a side that struggled last year, but it's hard enough to get an idea on how teams are tracking after one match, let alone when that match is against a side predicted to go winless all season.

7. The Catholic Church (0-1)

The Catholic Church are stacked with youthful talent, which also means they're likely to be very inconsistent throughout the season as shown in their Round 1 defeat to Gabe's Team.

Although the shortened season could prove helpful for The Catholic Church's young and exciting players, it also means that their season could be over before they know it.

8. Heeney Some Milk (0-1)

Everyone predicted a long season ahead for Heeney Some Milk, but with three donuts and a total score that fell 400 shy of their nearest competitor, the season might feel even longer.

Expect Heeney Some Milk to make themselves at home in eighth position for the entirety of the power rankings as well as the season itself ... and maybe even for next year too.
