Nana's Power Rankings: Round 3

Updated: Jun 25, 2020

The postponed Essendon game forced calculators into overdrive, but with Round 3 finally over, it's time to rank... powerfully.

1. Gabe's Team (3-0)

Last Week: 1st

They cruised past the winless UUFFT by recording the highest score of the round - and second highest of the season - proving what the competition already knew: Gabe's Team are the team to beat in 2020.

Not only did Gabe's Team feature the two highest scoring players for Round 3 in Sidebottom and Neale, Fienemann also placed the captaincy on Lachie Neale (126) to add insult to injury for the struggling UUFFT.

It's hard to see who, if anyone, can stop this side, with Gabe's Team yet to put a foot wrong this season.

Lachie Neale is averaging an incredible 114PPG (142.5PCV) in 2020

2. BOOOOooOOooOOOO! (2-1)

Last Week: 3rd

While a win over Max's Team came to no one's surprise, their fellow rival in NANA Winner also came up against a bottom side, but almost let it slip.

The win, in which they waltzed past Max's Team, sees them climb one spot on the power rankings and overtaking NANA Winner after their near-miss last week.

Due to the revamped fixture, BOO find themselves with a relatively easy three weeks ahead, and the possibility to create a gap between them and the sides pushing for finals.

3. NANA Winner (2-1)

Last Week: 2nd

After posting a season-high score of 1738 in Round 2, NANA Winner almost let one slip against the wooden-spoon favourites, Heeney Some Milk.

Before the fixture was changed to suit the shortened season, NANA Winner were looking at a 5-1 record but now they can't be too certain.

No one thinks Round 3's performance is the new norm for NANA Winner, and if they can recapture the form we saw earlier in the season, then last week's win will simply be another W in the books.

4. The Catholic Church (2-1)

Last Week: 5th

Don't look now, but after an upset victory over the undefeated Beat Jesse, The Catholic Church have snuck into the finals picture for the first time in over a year.

Their win over Max's Team in Round 2 didn't tell us much, but by taking down Beat Jesse in Round 3, the youth at The Catholic Church have shown they're up for any challenge, with NANA Winner in Round 4 one of the biggest challenges of them all.

If the electric talent at The Catholic Church can keep this momentum going, then perhaps they are every chance to be the first side to take down Gabe's Team.

5. Beat Jesse (2-1)

Last Week: 4th

They overcame a currently-winless UUFFT in Round 1, snuck past the 0-3 Heeney Some Milk in Round 2 and then fell short against their first piece of real competition in The Catholic Church in Round 3.

Does the 2-1 record truly represent where Beat Jesse are at as a club? Or could 2020 be just like 2019.

Thanks to the new fixture, no questions will be left unanswered when BOO host Beat Jesse in Round 4.

Beat Jesse was without Josh Kelly and Dustin Martin in Round 3

6. Max's Team (1-2)

Last Week: 6th

Max's Team recorded the lowest total in the league for the second consecutive week and if it weren't for their Round 1 victory over Heeney Some Milk - and The UUFFT's 0-3 start to 2020 - they could easily be lower than sixth on both the power rankings and the ladder.

For now, we'll let Max Read cling on to his Round 1 win, but when you find yourself being outscored by the usual Nana's easybeats, then we might also suggest clinging on to sixth spot in the power rankings, because you might not be here much longer.

Conor McKenna became the first Nana's player to test positive for COVID-19

7. The UUFFT (0-3)

Last Week: 7th

They've had to endure the toughest fixture to start the year, but it's tough to blame the fixture when you fail to crack 1300.

No one was beating Gabe's Team this week, so The UUFFT can't be too caught up on that, but six other sides - including Heeney Some Milk - scored enough to convincingly beat The UUFFT in Round 3, meaning it's time for Fienemann to officially be worried about his side.

The old fixture had people predicting an 0-6 start for The UUFFT, but now they've got a meeting with eighth-placed Heeney Some Milk this weekend, and perhaps it could be the change Fienemann's side so desperately requires.

8. Heeney Some Milk (0-3)

Last Week: 8th

After falling just short last week, Heeney Some Milk came within 20 points of pulling off the upset of the season against NANA Winner.

With a total of five players affected by the postponed Essendon-Melbourne clash, Heeney Some Milk found themselves chasing a target they weren't actually sure was correct.

Though they didn't get the win, you have to go back to Round 11 2019, to find the last time Heeney Some Milk were not in the lowest two scores for the round.

Round 3 Fixture

The Catholic Church (2-1, 4th) vs. NANA Winner (2-1, 2nd)

Max's Team (1-2, 6th) vs. Gabe's Team (3-0, 1st)

Heeney Some Milk (0-3, 8th) vs. The UUFFT (0-3, 8th)

BOO (2-1, 3rd) vs. Beat Jesse (2-1, 5th)
